Put-in-Bay Pyrate Fest 2013 a Success !!!

The 5th Annual Pyrate Fest weekend at the Bay was held this past weekend in downtown Put in bay Ohio.

Pyrates invaded Put-in-Bay's downtown harbor Friday a little later than the planned start, due to weather, but they were fought off by the island inhabitants and the Pyrate King's plans foiled again. This opened the 2013 Put-in-Bay Pirate Fest. Reenactors demonstrated sword fighting techniques and the art of skullduggary.

Saturday had a full day of activities including a Pirate Parade and Costume Contest for kids and adults, Pyrate marketplace and displays, a Kids fun fest and black powder firing demonstrations throughout the weekend. You could hear the cannons going off from every point on the island! Fireworks were set off on Saturday at dark to the amazement and delight of kids young and old.

Monday is the infamous Cardboard Boat Races at 6 pm in the downtown harbor. Registrants will gather at 4:30pm to have their boats judged and submissions entered for the people's choice award. Rumor has it that the Miller Boatline is entering a replics Brig Niagara this year!

Vote for your favorite bar/restaurant/vendor and make sure to try lots of different rib samples! We will be having a Silent Auction of Cleveland Brown items and a 50/50 raffle.

Don't leave too early on Sunday, June 16th, because it is the 39th Annual Jose DeRivera Founders Day Celebration. This is a celebration of the founding of the island village of Put in Bay by Jose DeRivera. Founders Day means great food and lots of fun for the entire family. It is held in DeRivera Park downtown from 11am to 5pm. Island entertainers will perform a free concert from 12:30 to 2 pm. The Put-in-Bay Hog Roasters will provide a roast beef picnic lunch. Put-in-Bay 2013 Events and Entertainment!!

Put-in-Bay, Ohio, is preparing for another incredible summer season in 2013!  The excitement is building for everyone as we plan some incredible events and bring in some great Put-in-Bay entertainment. The 2013 Bicentennial celebration is attracting much attention locally, regionally, and even nationally, being featured on Daytime TV as one of the top 10 world travel destinations in 2013!

Entertainment has started to be posted on our official Put-in-Bay Entertainment Calendar, so check out who is playing on what weekend. More bands to be added as we receive their information (Boardwalk and Roundhouse coming soon). You can also check out current promos on our Put-in-Bay Facebook page as well.

There is so much to do on our 2013 Put-in-Bay Calendar of Events, that everyone should be able to find a weekend that fits perfectly for themselves; be it a family reunion, bachelorette party, fishermen group, work retreat, or just a day trip with the kids.

In February, join us in Key West on the 8th and 9th for the annual Put-in-Bay Days at Sloppy Joes Bar. All your favorite Put-in-Bay entertainers will be on hand.

April sees the island start to open for the seasonal tourists, starting with the fishermen who come from as far away as North Dakota. A few lodgings open the first weekend of April including the Put-in-Bay Resort & Conference Center in downtown and the Island Club Home Rentals. The big events for April are the lighting of the Roundhouse Bar Whiskey Light, Mr. Ed's Pajama Jam, and the start of bachelor and bachelorette season.

May kicks off with the annual Putinbay.com Spring Fling party and thousands of people attend for the free burgers, dogs, beer, and entertainment. Also in May is Ohio's largest Cornhole Tournament, Mardi Gras, Victoria Day, and the big Memorial Day weekend bash to officially welcome summer. Some fun videos can be seen on our Put-in-Bay YouTube channel.

June is one of the busiest months on the island and starts off with Ohio Bike Week's Rally on the Rock. Bikers come from all over to look at each others' bikes, cruise the carnival-like atmosphere downtown, and take part in a Scavenger Hunt and Pig Roast on Sunday across from the luxurious Put-in-Bay Villas. Other events on following weekends include the Mills Cup Trophy Race, the Pooch Parade, and Founders Day Celebration. June wraps up with the annual Pyrate Fest weekend which is great for all ages.

July starts rocking with the incredible July 4th Fireworks display in the harbor set to music on the Perry's Monument lawn. Hundreds of people arrive mid-month for the Put-in-Bay Cup Soccer Challenge and then thousands more descend on the island towards the end for our biggest party weekend of the year, Christmas in July. This year, however, it is being extended to cover two weekends due to the popular demand and we are calling it our Put-in-Bay 12 Days of Christmas. Book your rooms early as some establishments sell out by February! Try the Commodore Resort and the new Put-in-Bay Condos for great lodging!

August is perhaps the busiest month of the summer with events every week and weekend and families using up the last of their vacation before school starts back up. There are lots of boating events sponsored by I-LYA this month and lots of historical events planned. Fun events include the Roundhouse Bar Bartender Olympics, the big Volleyball Battle, Key West Days at the Bay, and the 5-iron Golf Tournament. The month wraps up with our big Labor Day Bash to close out the busy summer season and ease us in to the fall. Check out some great picture on our Put-in-Bay Pinterest page.

September may start the fall months, but it is no less busy! Historical Weekend this year will be one of our busiest ever, so plan ahead and check out future news articles for all the exciting Bicentennial events planned! Rent your golf cart online early because they sell out fast! Also come to the island for out annual New Years at the Bay weekend, the Road Race reunion, and Half-way to St. Pattys Day party. If you are in to more community related events, we round out the month with our annual 5k Race, the Fire Department Clambake, and the big 5-Alarm Texas Hold-Em Tourney.

October winds down the season and we have our second big Customer Appreciation party of the year, the Putinbay.com Fall Ball, with all the usual free food, beer, and entertainment. Everyone enjoys the Island Wine Festival, the Oktoberfest party (with dancing, singing, and lots of homemade food!!!), the Wake at the Roundhouse, and finally our closing-down weekend with the Halloween Boo Bash.

With so many weekends and events to choose from, why pick just one?!?  Come up a few different times and experience all that Put-in-Bay has to offer! Visit the official Put-in-Bay Visitors and Convention Bureau for more information.
